Professional activities:

Currently, Professor Burch is engaged in collaborative research into the financialisation of food and agriculture, power relationships along the agri-food supply chain, corporations and agriculture in Southeast Asia, and the role of supermarkets in the global food system.


Before entering Sussex University as a mature student in 1968, Professor Burch was apprenticed in the printing industry in London, and then trained as a graphic designer. In 1976, he was appointed as lecturer in the Science, Technology and Society program at Griffith University, in Brisbane, where he remained until his retirement in 2009.

The Political Economy of Food and Agriculture; Agriculture and Social Change in the Less Developed Countries.
