Important Information
This information has been taken from the Policy on appointment of tutors in the School of Social Science.
- Should a lecturer wish to appoint as a tutor someone who is not enrolled as a post-graduate in the School of Social Science, the lecturer must make application to the TLC for exemption from policy, indicating why there is a need to go outside the School for tutorial assistance.
- Where lecturers perceive a problem with the teaching abilities of any tutor, he/she has a duty of care to mentor that tutor to assist them in improving their teaching skills. The TLC may be asked to assist in this process.
- All tutors must agree to attend sessions to assist them with their teaching if requested to do so by the TLC.
Selection Procedure
A Register of Casual Tutors for currently enrolled students who wish to be considered for casual tutoring and marking is kept by the School. By the commencement of each teaching year, postgraduate students should have completed and returned a form showing their interest areas and skills. The form can be accessed here. These applicants will be considered by the Head of School and and the School Manager when appointments need to be made.
